The SaltWater World

The lobsters above are a days work from a dive in July 2009. The big guy was 17.5 lbs. They then decrease in size starting at the left; from just over 4 lbs all the way to 1 1/4lbs. Diving for lobsters is the ultimate Cape Cod experience. It is a skill passed down from knowlegable locals and not to be mistaken for an easy task. Finding lobsters is just the beginning! Getting past the front line of bone crushing weaponry they display is the part that makes you or......no pun.....breaks you! Ahhh; okay, really....it's a heart thumping experience with a payoff of the absolutley freshest lobster the planet knows.
SPEAR FISHING
Something most only think of in the clear waters of the Carribean and other southern waters is Spear-Fishing. Striped Bass is offlimits in Massachussetts for spearfishermen (unlike its neighbors Rhode Island and New Hampshire) but most other species are permitted.
The SaltWaterWorld wants to help you find the best dive sites and spearfishing grounds not only around Cape Cod but everywhere we travel.

DIVING LOCATIONS
SS James Longstreet - Although it no longer looks like this (picture left), the SS James Longstreet (better known as the 'Target Ship') can make for a fun dive no matter what your skill level. The Target Ship got its nickname due to the fact that is was placed in 25 feet of water in the middle of Cape Cod Bay to be used by the armed forces as target practice. If you ask, many Cape Codders have stories of watching the bombings during warm summer nights. Now all broken into peices, the Target Ship makes for a great habitat for sealife. Tautog, Black Sea Bass, Flounder, and Striped Bass are just a quick list of fish you will find here. Don't be surprised to see a Lobster or two hiding out in the wreckage. Be careful of the sharp, rusty peices of metal almost everywhere you turn. Although it is shallow, cutting open a tube could ruin your day.
